Was it normal for some parents to force feed their kids in the past?

I (then 9 years old) still have that terrible memory of my father getting frustrated when I felt disgust for a food and didn't want to eat. I believe it was some type of sensory with certain foods that provoke feelings of nausea or something. I just didn't like any food and still don't as an adult. I feel repulsion towards pizza, esp if it has tomato sauce and cheese, yuck.

He kept repeating ''eat already, eat, eat'' and used too much force in trying to desperately place the spoon in my mouth to the point of causing me a nosebleed. He said something like ''no, darn'' and rushed quickly with cottoms and hydrogen peroxide. I ended up not eating any further. He was upset and concerned that I would starve. Suddenly my appetite began increasing several months later and I got used to some other foods.

My younger brother (when he was either a toddler or very small child) used to at times get threatened with a belt for not eating. I don't recall getting threatened with a belt for that but I still could taste that horrible spoon being forced fed in that manner.
