I've caught my guy friend staring at me?

I've known my guy friend for about 6 years, and for those years I saw him as my friend. But recently, things have started changing. We were in art when I noticed that every time we do something evolving standing up, he's always close to me. And also sometimes, I see him stare at me and then I look up and I stare at him, and this lasts for about 4 seconds. Lol. Anyway, I sit right in front of him too. And just recently, in math, I've caught him staring at me from across the room. And I told my friend about this,and she was like well, because your pretty and smart. I just rolled my eyes at her. And after we got back to the classroom, I saw him and all his friends staring at me, not knowing what to do I just stared back. He's also on my bus as well. And I think he has a girlfriend, but I'm not sure, I don't see him around with her much. We haven't payed attention to each other much, until we had art class. Because every 3 months we change one class, like art,music etc. So is it normal for him, does he like me? Or is he just my close friend? My friends have been telling me that he likes me, but I didn't really trust them,yet. FYI, he's popular, and my friends labeled him as the hottest guy in school.
