Here me out before you jump to conclusions:

Let's say a guy and a girl meet and hit it off and are really into talking to eachother. They laugh at the same stuff, have a lot of the same hobbies and interests, and etc etc. This lasts for quite a period of time (lets say 3 months). You could classify them as awesome friends! She is REALLY into talking to him and hanging with him fyi

Eventually the guy confesses to liking her, and she says she doesn't like him like that. It's safe to assume it means the girl doesn't find the guy physically/sexually attractive right? Cause what else is missing? Never heard a girl say "yeah me and him have too many interests together and get along TOO well"

The above ^^ was me 2 years ago, just wanted to ask cause I sorta remembered the event and I'm curious.

Also my POV is: I do think it's a lack of physical attraction. Think about your partner in a relationship, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE between a boyfriend, and a guy friend, is how you treat them/what you say to them.


I didn't get my first girlfriend till 21 honestly. You know what I realized? "Wow... so all a relationship is is a female friend I just enjoy hanging out with and want to do physical stuff with"

Not always. There are certain things people in a relationship need to have in common that don't necessarily matter when you're just friends. Things like religion, what you want out of life, what you want in a relationship, morals and values, etc.

My best guy friend is someone I'm very physically attracted to (and he's told me I'm attractive as well), but we just don't have the right things in common. He likes to analyze; I see things at the surface. He's very opinionated and he wants to go out and make a change in the world; I just want to be happy in life and don't feel obligated to do anything more. We don't really have any common interests, so we never really do anything together except for sitting and talking. Which is fine, since we have great conversation. Am I making any sense?

Anyways, it's true that physical attraction matters in a relationship when it doesn't matter in a friendship. But the other difference is that when you're in a relationship with someone, you start to spend a lot more one-on-one time together. If you don't have the right things in common, the one-on-one time can be difficult.

Usually it is, but not always.

Sometimes there is something else missing. For example, I have had a close guy friend that I connected to really well in some ways and we both found each other attractive enough, but there is some kind of emotional chemistry missing. I can't pinpoint what is was, but we both felt it. I dated his best friend, as well ... a lot of times best friends do have opposite "types."

Other times it can mean that there is some major life value that is different between the two people. Like, if we both love talking about music and movies, but one person likes to get high all the time and the other doesn't. Or maybe you both love golfing and have a great time, but one person is really controlling and possessive and the other is independent. Etc.

I think it CAN mean there's no physical/sexual attraction, but it can also mean many other things. There could be something holding her back. Maybe she doesn't like that he doesn't have a job? That he doesn't have a car? That he lives with his parents still? Many girls think this way while sitll finding the guy physically attractive. They will consider all the factors and all the things about him before letting themselves fall for him. Note: I said MANY. Not ALL.

Also, I know many girls who don't like guys who are too much like them. They like to go for their opposite to balance things out. So yes, sometimes having too many interests and too much in common can be something a girl does not want.

So in short: It depends.

I voted A. I say 80% of the reason why guys are friend zoned is due to her not being physically attracted to you.

The other 20% is because of compatibility factors (emotional, situation, etc.)

A lot of the time it's lack of physical attraction, then other times it's lack of emotional attraction. like there is a guy that I just met that is really attractive, but he's a little too feminine for me to want him in THAT way, so he's friend zoned.

and another guy that wanted to date me was really hot but he's goofy/dorky.

or it could be he has nothing going for him and you don't wanna date someone like that

No I have always have friends that are attractive that just make better friends, why because they just don't interest me in a relationship type of way, they are awesome friends just missing that something more.

Yes, partially. What some girls also need is just something that'll make them think of you differently fairly early on. Meaning, if you don't want to fall into the friend zone, don't act like a friend. Act like a potential love interest.
