The Entertainment and fashion industry needs better standards

These days any ugly girl can become an actress or model. We are so politically correct and avoid hurting feelings. It's okay to say, " No! you can't be an actress".

Look at Scarlett Johansson. She was born beautiful. She is a natural beauty.

Ugly actresses need tons of makeup and photoshop pictures to look decent. Scarlett can beat all of them even without makeup. The entertainment industry needs natural born stunning beauties.

If you're going to say actresses are more good looking than the average women, then why hire ugly women to be actresses.

I'm personally much more attractive than most actresses.

Now, fashion industry. We had natural born beauties like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell.

Now, we have models who look like this. She is not ugly, but not stunning like Naomi Campbell or Cindy Crawford.

So get better standards. Only natural born stunning beauties should be actresses and models.

I disagree... but not for why you think. I think movies would get stale if everyone in them was 10/10 attractiveness.

People like Amy Schumer, Rachel Dratch, Chris Farley, Carrie Brownstein, Will Ferrel, and tons of others would never be in movies if only 10/10 people were allowed. I think that would make movies waaaaay less funny.

It all depends on which audience you're marketing to and what the entertainment is about. If it's a movie about an average family, then it would make sense to have average looking people in it. Some old people to play the grandparents, some middle-aged as the parents and some kids to play the kids. We needs actors and actresses in all sizes, colors, ages and characteristics to be able to make a realistic movie. If I wanted to see a movie picturing the reality, I would expect people to look like how most people does in real life.

If the movie was about a model company or a fantasy world, then it would make sense they didn't have an average look.

When it comes to the fashion industry it also depends on who you're marketing for. If you're trying to sell to children, elderly or an average person, it would make sense to have some average people in the advertisement that they can relate to. But if you're going to sell to young beautiful people, then it would be logical to have many beautiful models.

Entertainers don’t and shouldn’t get parts based on their looks. They should get parts based on their ability to, you guessed it ENTERTAIN. As for the fashion industry, people have begun to wake up from the days of unrealistically perfect runway models. They want to see people that look like them. Not 6 foot tall, size 3 supermodels. They’re meant to be showing us how clothes fit, well how are the clothes that fit them going to look good on a woman that’s 5’4 and a size 6. The answer a lot of the time it doesn’t. The industries are actually starting to move away from superficial things like what your describing, and it’s people like you that are holding it back. It’s obviously nice if people have good looks and talent, but talent should always win over good looks.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. While I agree Cindy was stunning... I didn't get why Claudia Shiffer was up there with the super models. But someone else might see it... Part of the problem with the beauty industry is the ridiculously narrow standards of beauty (what was beautiful in one decade is ugly the next and vice versa). I'm all for a) Looking past mere physical beauty and b) Accepting a wider and more enduring concept of what real beauty is. If you think about it.. when we look at hot male actors.. it's a package deal kinda thing (Clooneys sexy older distinguished male character etc)... it's not just facial features and a good body... but his vibe and character coming through. This pressure for women to always be beautiful is pretty sad.

I can partially understand the point about the fashion industry. Though even that in itself is changing and people want to see people who look like them and can relate to, wearing the clothes they wanna wear. It reflects real life people. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that people literally come in all shapes and sizes and looks.

And to the point about actresses, who said they're there to look pretty? That's not thier job, and you talk as if that's the only role for women to play if they become an actress. Either way. People can do what they want as long as they're not hurting/killing anybody.

I completely disagree. I think it's important to have a variety of people there. I am really thankful for having normal looking people on TV. For me even Instagram is enough. Everyone just shows their best side. It's like almost everyone is a model.

Wow, no disrespect, but I really hate your post! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you may consider stunning, might be absolutely unattractive to another and vice versa. Moreover, there is a lot more to be attracted to than just someone's looks... attitude, confidence, edginess, etc. What's sad, is the women/men going out and getting all kinds of fake implants and such to obtain what's deemed as societal standards. I really prefer watching movies with weirder looking actors/actresses, all things being equal. Like Cillian Murphy and Tilda Swinton. It's a more interesting visual experience. So I'd have to say if anything the entertainment industry needs to step away from casting people with the same boring looks.

Also I'm for equality so if someone does modeling good then why not give them the job. A lot of models esspecially run ways models are not close to what most men find attractive. They are super tall, underweight, no figure and usually wearing crazy clothes.

I think a lot of this comes down to personal taste. What you find attractive it's not necessarily universal. For me, Scarlett Johansson barely qualifies as girl next door. I'm not criticizing other people for saying she's gorgeous, I just don't see it in the same way. I find other women gorgeous

Actresses don't need to be necessarily so pretty. Movies are supposed to be kinda realistic. And not everyone is as pretty as Scarlett Johansson.
For example movies that are made about real historical characters or events have actors looking 100 times better than the original real life people
