Foundation that's too thick or cakey-looking is alws alws ALWAYS worse than no foundation.
Beyond that... ••AT YOUR AGE•• I would question whether it's even necessary for you to use foundation (unless you're going to be in a bunch of photos taken under overhead lighting).
Unless yr skin has so many blemishes that it roughly resembles the surface of the Moon... you probably don't need to waste the time (or money) on foundation.
If yr skin IS cratered/pockmarked/otherwise significantly blemished, then, the key is to find a foundation that's full-coverage but that's NOT too thick (and a high quality concealer palette, for more stubborn blemishes).
If this is an issue for you, then, I could ask some girlfriends for their recommendations.
In that case — especially as young as you are — it's difficult for me to think of any good argument for you to use foundation.
Don't forget the money thing, too. Since you're young and generally have good skin, the ONLY foundations that are gna look good on you will be the ones that combine extreme thinness with full coverage.
... In other words, the most expensive ones. (Makeup in general — but ••especially•• foundation and concealer products — is DEFINITELY one place where "you get what you pay for".)
Any of the cheaper products are just gna end up looking like stage makeup. •____________•
You may want to get yr hands on a good concealer palette, in case you need an emergency fix for any temporary blemishes. (I like the one from Stila, although I mostly just bought it because I went to a warehouse sale where it was like 75% off retail.)
Why lasers? Vellus hair removal?
omg i know it's expensive! i use armani luminous silk for natural looks, and kat von d for full coverage or makeupforever and those cost a fortune i feel like. i have a lot of good concealers already, lately i have been obsessed with kevyn aucoin sensual skin enhancer! it's like 50 bucks at sephora for such a small pot but honestly so worth it if you want to brighten your under eyes in a natural way. for full glam i use tarte shape tape. i'll definitely try out the stila one and see what i think
and i do laser hair removal but i actually just started ( with my same laser hair removal lady) doing this nd: yag laser which is supposed to remove the redness in my cheeks! i actually have very clear skin aside from the redness, i'm on my second treatment and a couple more i think the redness should be gone
Yah, the redness should be temporary.
I have girlfriends who swear by the MUFE foundation and the shape tape. And yeah, KVD is awesome for full coverage (as you might expect from the sheer volume of tattoos that Kat herself has!).
The Stila palette is worth a go, but, I'm spoiled because I have rlly good skin (and so I can just go with whatever higher-end brands I happen to find at warehouse/sample sales here in LA). I have more brand loyalty when it comes to lipsticks and eyeliners, but not rlly with foundations, concealers, bronzers, eyeshadows, or rlly anything else.

For under-eye circles, start using this stuff daily:
theordinary.com/.../rdn-caffeine-solution-5pct-egcg-30ml
You should start to see a noticeable difference within a couple of weeks.
More generally, if you're thinking of buying any expensive skincare product, alws check to see if the ordinary has it first. Reputable quality, and their prices are pretty amazing 👍🏼
This^^^ foundation, to the point your neck is a different colour to your face is a turn-off (and something guys might laugh with each other about lol).
You look better with the correct amount, because that’s the whole point of the product. But remember at the end of the night we see what you look like when you clean it off anyway.
@Cosytoasty Bad color matching is a different issue. That’s mostly independent of quantity (i. e., even the thinnest foundation will look terrible — in just the way you’ve described — if it’s color-mismatched).
There are 4 reasons why bad color-matching happens:
1/ A lot of employees at makeup stores suck at it. (Fyi, MAC store employees are yr best bet here — they’re all actual make-up artists, to some degree or another, and are paid slightly less shitty retail wages accordingly)
2/ The lighting in the store may not match the target lighting. (As much as I love Sephora stores, their lighting doesn’t resemble ANY real life situation... not even indoor situations.)
3/ the woman might be color-matching her forehead, which is usually 1-2 shades too dark because sunlight. (this is rlly just an example of no. 1)
and
4/ Women who tan easily need to buy at least 2-3 different shades, and switch accordingly.
Also, I wouldn’t be so sure about the end of the night part ahah. I definitely have girlfriends whose boyfriends-now-husbands didn’t see them without makeup for months or, in one case, years.
@redeyemindtricks
Months 😱 ? Like did she never shower after sex or something lol?
@Cosytoasty The two longest delays were boys who worked on Wall Street and in a biglaw firm, respectively. (One word “biglaw” isn’t a typo — google if you don’t know what associates’ hours are like)
Wall Street boy spent so many nights at the bank that, at one point, he and his girlfriend (my friend) didn’t even get to unwrap some new furniture until a month after it was delivered.
Biglaw dude went home ••somewhat•• more often, but, similar situation.
In both cases, boyo would just pass out from sheer exhaustion after sex.
One of the two women didn’t spend nights, because her dog “needed fed” (she’s originally from Alabama... she actually talks like that).
The other one wears a sleep mask every night (just as YOU — and everyone else living in a decent sized metro area — should... along with ear plugs) and was alws still fast asleep when boyo left for work the following morning at o’dark thirty a. m.
You don't always need foundation I don't think, unless you're doing contour and that kinda thing. I don't use foundation because I don't like the way it feels on my face and my skin looks just about the same without it and I don't do a ton of real makeup stuff, just the basic stuff so I don't mind going without it
I hate foundation! I tried it and it broke my skin out. I prefer a bit of concealer, some lip stuff, and mascara. Every once in awhile I will use eyeshadow. I feel better without all that junk on my face.
I'm not a makeup prodigy but maybe you're right
Anyways whatever floats your boat
I honestly really like the first pic 10x more than the second.

You are a very pretty girl, couldnt tell if you were or werent wearing foundation.
@taleets well I am sure you are beautiful just the same.
I stopped using foundation and I think it's too much for me personally. I think it's helpful though for girls who have uneven skin and discoloration all over their face so I wouldn't knock it down. Just different strokes for different folks.
I personally hate foundation and never wear it, I just feel weird when I do.
I think it looks too fake
The eyes look great but I don't like the eyebrows.
Your skin looks good either way, it looks so smooth!
Natural beauty is unsubstitutional. Less makeup - better. No makeup - best. Also it's healthy not to wear makeup, and slows down aging of skin.
If u put all of that on ur face u will end up looking like every other girl rather than urself
If I'm wearing a white shirt and a girl put her head on my chest a leaves a face print that's too much
Make up is good but natural beauty the best
I like the first pic
I don't care
The only makeup I require her to have? Lipgloss
Most females. It looks so fake.
Natural beauty is always better than makeup
A little make up is fine!!!
You look real nice. And i like more natural look.
Less make up better
