It's stupid and something similar happens with guys except it's more fundamental to their personalities.
The nerdy guy eventually realizes that being nerdy is horrible, starts wearing leather, and then punches or shoots someone and "oh my god they're a man now". It's dumb.
It was common in the 90s and even now a few of them are still released every year. I don’t see any point of these makeover movies but negative brainwashing.
Thanks! ✌️

Up until the early-mid 90's, "nerd" was an insult. It sounds strange, I know, but it was. The mentality spread from that that anything "nerdy" must be bad, and done away with. This is a part of why you don't see many "nerd makeover" scenes in modern media; the stigma's gone.
And sometimes there are other aspects- consider the makeover scene in the Breakfast Club. Allison's not a nerd, but the same principle applies. It's not so extreme as many examples are:
But many decry it as needless nonetheless. Now, it's a young Ally Sheedy, who's going to look good in pretty much anything (as the shirt apparently made from a pillow case shows here), but the change in hair, outfit, and makeup wasn't just about looks, but about her opening herself up and getting closer to the others than her more closed-off persona would normally allow, as well as a moment of real bonding between her and Claire- "helping" someone out like that was how Claire showed affection and fondness, and part of the appeal was Allison recognizing and accepting that.
it means if you don't fix yourself up you look careless and careless people don't attract people in general. Of course they exaggerate in movies to get reactions and views but it's just the truth. I know a lot of girls who never fix themselves up and look careless, they still had boyfriend's but they boyfriend's were just as careless of their appearance. slob like and mostly overweight unattractive but if they tried I bet they could look somewhat attractive, some more than others but fixing yourself up DOES help a lot in attracting not just romantic partners but good careers and friendships. if you are careless with yourself it shows carlessness with anything from jobs to relationships.
You are are a very good writer
Like I said along time ago. You are words for me in and just makes me like I'm in the story because I'm seeing it and feeling it right in front of me
Hey everybody deserves a makeover speaking of makeover is that a picture of you on your page
I think in movies change in a person can only be shown through visuals. Its been in practice since a long time. In real life a change in character or mindset can be seen in the way the person acts, talks etc. It's easier in movies to show change by using makeups, cutting hair etc. If you observe, the character has a makeover after something dramatic or life changing happens, and it's impossible to show character development in a 2-3 hour movie.
The point is exactly that: that if you put makeup and a new hairstyle on someone, they magically get more attractive. It’s an oversimplification, but it does work, especially in high school.
I think it's a positive thing. Because it shows that supposedly plain-looking people can still be beautiful.
Most writers in Hollywood were nerds in highschool. So why wouldn't they write scripts about nerds going from gross to gorgeous with a simple makeover?
Nerds can be hot just the way they are too. But not everyone will notice them.
Because then he’d just be an intellectual jock
Like at Caltech or MIT they have nerd athletes
Probably to give people hope that they can be cool too lol
I hated that crazy stupid love movie, it basically give the wife a pass for cheating and made everything the father's fault.
