Do you dress to impress or do you wear what is comfortable?

Question

I understand wanting to look good and feel good. BUT... I don't understand why people wear the most uncomfortable things just to try and look good... This make zero sense to me. When you look good... you feel good. This can't always be true.

I know some people are more sensitive to some things then others but you look at some people and you just know there is no way they are comfortable and you wonder how they even get through day to day life with that

I did an interesting challenge whereby we were supposed to dress up everyday for a week. Whatever you were doing that day, you had to look like you were "going somewhere" "stylish" "put together" "fancy," whatever. This was the week I KNEW I could never be one of those high maintenance girls. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dressing up on occasion, but everyday was like a second job. Sitting there doing hair and make-up for an hour, and then wearing these dry cleaned clothes and heels and the whole bit was a lot. I will admit though, that I got a lot of good attention during this experiment (which is why people must clearly live this way). I got a lot of compliments, people wondering where I was going 'all dressed up,' I felt like I got a bit more respect out of strangers, and turned a few heads. That bit was nice, but I love just a good pair of leggings, some tennis shoes, and a comfy top. I think I like the balance of saving the fancy stuff for some fancy occasions.

My comfort is top priority, next comes dressing to the of occasion. Then being presentable. Also my dress should not look like an over effort. The only one here to be impressed is me. I have set very high standards and it is very hard to impress me.

Both. IT'S ALWAYS BOTH! You can be comfortable AND show some style. Being well dressed is not about fashion, and expensive clothes, it's about feeling great in your outfit and putting some effort in it. The kind of clothes doesn't matter as long as it fit you. And it's not about about how we're perceived by others, It's something we do for ourselves. Feeling good in our clothes affect our mood, our attitude, the way we move, the way we act.

Here's a thought: while it's only one option of many, the simplest way to reduce energy costs is to reduce consumption. Now, how much money do you suppose we spend every year on air conditioning the US Capitol? How much would we save if Congress just accepted that Washington, DC doesn't have the same climate as London and actually dressed for the weather? If businesses told their employees to dress for the season it was in the place they were in? If you're customer-facing, there's SOME argument for dressing up, but I'm in Florida now, and I think anyone wearing long pants around here in June is either homeless or insane.

Both. Here in California, I have seen just about everything. For me, I NEVER wear tennis shoes to any kind of meeting, or informal occasion, i. e. Friday nite Wine Get Together.

Not sure what your definition of 'uncomfortable" is. I, at times, wear my tuxedo, for an appropriate occasion and it is not as comfortable as a pair of jeans and a loose top.

I dress for the occasion, AND for myself.

I had the unpleasant experience of going to my dentist's home, (mansion on the water in Newport) and I wore my tuxedo, and there were some "uncultured swine" (LOLOL I saw that insult, here on GAG and will never forget it LOL) wearing shitty looking shorts and cheap t-shirts.

There's such a thing as doing both, you know? I dress up nice every single day but what I wear is comfortable to me. My suits and trousers are all breathable fabrics and tailored to my shape.

Dressing nice doesn't have to be uncomfortable. And being comfortable doesn't always mean to look like a complete slob.

A mix of both. You never know when you'll meet someone who would assist you in a major way. So I typically dress to impress. The only time i dress lazy is if im going on a last minute night errand and need something really bad. What i call "dress to impress" is just a tshirt dress with some sandals. Theyre comfortable and cute. a lot more comfortable than sweats in my opinion

Both , it depends , if there were a boy that I have a crush on , I would dress to impress , but if it's a place with boys I don't have interest in I wouldn't put a lot of effort in it but my outfit should be at least neat

Both but it also depends on the setting. I’d dress up for an event/interview but still wear what’s comfortable. I think heels are uncomfortable so even for an interview or something I’d wear flats. It’d have to be a special occasion for me to wear heels. However, if I’m going to a coffee shop I’d definitely dress down but still be presentable.
