Thrifting isn't what it used to be. I think in the past, it was associated with being something strictly "the poor" did and the kids wearing those clothes often got made fun of, which was sad, but nowadays thrifting is a literal culture of people making money doing flips, young influencers doing shop with me's, people re-purposing what they find into fashion, bargain hunting, and then there is that percentage that it's survival--shopping for families overseas, or trying to make ends meet, or elderly on a strict budget.
I've been thrifting since I was a kid, got re-introduced to it in college, and now its a business. I have found so many amazing pieces. It's always a struggle trying to decide do I sell or keep especially the good designer/brand name stuff. I think those not in the know assume its gross, and it's only ripped up shredded clothes that are nasty, but those people have probably never tried thrifting. If you're looking for quality, definitely hit up the rich side of town because rich people throw out expensive clothing and vintage pieces, and old rich people that die have children that don't know the value of the stuff they're tossing, so it's often still in perfect condition, tags on. One persons trash, is definitely another's treasure!

No not really because they clean it before they put it out and the things that would be gross used. They don’t take like underwear and especially if you’re needing something for an event but don’t want to spend the money on buying a new one you know you won’t need it again like a formal dress and I want things like that.
No, it's not. My wife finds a lot of amazing things at thrift stores -- Patagonia jackets, a Marmot rain coat, designer shoes and clothes. Not long after we met she found a $10 wedding dress at a thrift shop and bought it. Nice -- Priscilla of Boston. It fit her perfectly. She got to wear it. For the wedding she needed shoes. Found a pair of unworn J. Crew. satin wedding pumps at a thrift store a couple of blocks away. They were a bit expensive at $1.99 but fortunately they were 25% off. So a $10 wedding dress and $1.49 shoes. She looked amazing.
In Australia , its become ridiculous, wayyyy too expensive generally which is kinda crazy , and misses the point of an opp shop ( which is what we call it ) , I love the idea , I hate the smell , but it needs to be cheap , if people wish to donate then they can , but I think the idea of a " hidden gem " is what brings people along.
Here in Thailand , I've not seen opp shops , there must be some somewhere.

Depends on what you buy. Buying used dishes depends on the dishes; used kitchen appliances, no way. Clothes no problem. No used underwear. Used furniture, ick. Hard surfaced furniture, tables, chairs, that can be wiped down, sure. Buying used books, no different than checking out from a library.
Buying used items to decorate my house, sure. Buying used shoes, I had rather rent shoes at a bowling alley.I bought a nice kitchen set at a thrift shop. In the town where I livecthe dump has a swap shop and I have gotten some cool stuff there for free. I gotca fancy baby stroller and a couple of beach radios. There are enough discarded bikes that I grabbed to make a couple of serviceable bicycles
I go to thrift stores all the time to find old records, old stereo equipment, and old man shirts. It's only gross to people who think they are too good to shop there. It's also the only place you are going to find old stuff that is no longer made besides garage sales, ebay, shopgoodwill, facebook marketplace, craigslist, etc.
no- but these days you gotta be careful i had a friend buy a box of used books that had bed bugs and they infested her apartment she's been a year at it even with an exterminator once a month spraying still.
Not at all. I don't do it much. But I've gotten some really nice vintage clothing. My wife and I bought a cool cabinet. I've bought other furniture that I modified and repurposed. We've gotten some nice candle sticks, vases and other things.
Even when I was in high school it was a cool hippie thing to do to get vintage clothes. I bought an awesome bomber jacket once, too.I've been going to thrift shops throughout my whole life. Used to be a necessity - now I simply enjoy it, sometimes I just go to look at things and see if I find a gem. It's funny how the views on thrifting has changed, it isn't as frowned upon as it used to be anymore. At least in Iceland/Denmark
I don't think the act of going to them is gross. Some of the shops are but that's a shop thing, not a thrift thing.
I won't buy underwear or shoes but other stuff is fine and there are some great findsI think the idea of "thrift shopping" has changed. These outlets do not just hang unwashed dirty stuff and theift shopping is more on in style now, normally with women.
I dont look at clothes there. I have other stuff of interest. (CDs, books...).
I have spent many a happy hour browsing in charity shops, and on several occasions have picked up some absolute bargains.
Not at all.
Well, like you say, there are some types of items that can leave a stain or two that you'd rather not imagine is there.
But overall it's good stuff of quality (it's made it this far), most of all it's cheap and good on the environment. Many good things are thrown into trash for no real reason.Thats not gross at all
I love exploring second hamd n unexpected stuff... every now and then i buy from there since childhood... now i even buy from there to sell sometimes... I've a lot of things from there... id love to talk about it to youIn our City of Monongahela, Pennsylvania, USA. We have a thrift store just open, and they are also the salvation Army and the people who run it are real nice, they do try to help people out who has termination notices with bills. I get most of my clothes at Walmart and if I can find men's shorts I'll get them, but I usually get my clothes at Walmart.
No matter what you’re wearing, nobody can tell when something is new or old. There’s nothing wrong with going to thrift stores.
It's only gross if there's piss on the floors... everywhere. And people are funkin in the clothes aisles
Nope not gross at all. Just don't ever buy underwear.
I only go to thrift stores if I’ve only got 20 dollars in my pocket. Lol! Which is never!
i love going thrifting i mean yeah i stay away from all of those bc to me that is just gross but many times i have found really cute outfits
They are not the same anymore. Half the time, you can buy brand new for around the same price.
Not at all, my biggest deals are from charity shops
It's not gross, but thrift stores are for poor people.
That's often their only way of buying things and I don't feel right going in and buying up all the good stuff when I can afford it new
