I feel bad I broke his heart?

Years ago a rejected a guy, told him its because he is a year younger than me. I never even gave him a chance.

We remained just friends. He told me today that he is in a relationship now. And he also told me exactly how much I hurt him and how much I meant to him.

I never realized how much I hurt him and I told him I was sorry. I feel horrible about it. I know I don't deserve any sympathy. But what would you do? How would you handle this situation?

i know that there have been at least 2 guys this past holiday I rejected and I know it hurt them. depending on their personalities and their experience in dating, some guys either brush it off like nothing or they get real hurt. It's usually the ones who were genuine about you and cared. I always am honest though if I don't like someone I'll tell them straight because I don't want them getting hurt . If I'm confused then I'm confused. If I were you, I'd remain friends with him. He's in a relationship now and hopefully he doesn't hurt her by somehow going back and ending up with you. of course you feel bad but it's not your fault if you're not attracted to him in that way. I'd say be friends at least so at least you guys can talk or hang out and stuff.

the best way is to be honest upfront and you did that. good for you. But definitely he's hurt because you didn't like him back and hopefully you turned him down as nice as you could. treat others as you wish to be treated. that's my philosophy. It wasn't your fault.

You have every right to reject someone for whatever reason, and he has no right to give you a guilt trip. Sorry, but if this happened a while ago he is being immature and unreasonable and you shouldn't feel guilty.

-You don't deserve sympathy but @ the same time you just did not want to go out with someone. That is not a problem and that decision is only up to you. Do not beat yourself up so much and you will find the right person and maybe next time give someone a chance because a chance can be all that it takes.

It's not your fault. You didn't want a relationship with him and told him, that's all anyone could have asked for in that situation. You didn't set out to hurt him and shouldn't feel guilty for how he dealt with his feelings.
