What does it mean when a guy says "fight me"?

When I was with my crush he was complaining that the floor was too hard and that he wanted his pillow back. We were at an event that requires people to work on a project over the course of 24 hours and after midnight they had rooms set up for people to sleep in. So the two of us were in the sleeping room with like 5 other participants and I wanted his pillow cause I was borrowing it but he kept inching closer and whispering "fight me". He also kept trying to grab it from me but he would hesistate to actually take it when he's probably able to overpower me pretty well.
Then after that whenever he wanted his pillow back he would say "fight me" and I just assured him he could get it later. When he says that though we never actually fight. We sort of just banter and he hesitates to get too close to me so I'm wondering what that could mean.

He's messing around with you, possibly as a way of flirting. He might've been trying to get you to playfully come after him.

LOL I didn't think he was flirting because he didn't really look in my direction a lot even when I was very obviously looking at him. And it's not that hard to tell I'm looking at him cause he's 6'2" and I'm 5'3" so I'm just looking up. I kinda just assumed he didn't like me that way.

Are you asking how I could be wondering if he's flirting or not?
I'm wondering because he says "fight me" but refused to get physically agressive with me and he really just slides closer. But aside from not wanting to touch me he also never seems to want to look at me when im looking at him. When I look at him It's very obvious b/c he's much taller than I am so I have to look up a lot. It's sort of feels like he looks past me LOL. That's why I have doubts
