A man I met and have been friends with for about a month told me , “you smell really nice : are you wearing a new perfume today? Which one is it”

Is that flirting? Also indirectly asked me to go out and grab a bite with him but I politely declined as he didn’t out right ask - instead he walked me out of the building - ? Any ideas

The guy like you is some way or another and indirectly asked you to spend a meal with him. Does it matter if it was direct or indirectly. Yo sure got the message by your comments. What everyone has to make some declaration of intent just to grab a bite. Are you cold to everyone. I've asked women I just met on a plane if she would like to share dinner while we made connections. I didn't want to rape or kill her. I was just being friendly. We were both alone traveling on a long flight. It was nice to have company. A couple of times it has turned in to more but only threw some indirect suggestions. They got it and we had a good time between our business appointments.
Some women look like the need to be treated softly because they will dismiss you. It can't be to indirect if you understood. You just like men to jump though your hoops. He was better off.

You know, it seems like you just can't be friendly to some people without them being suspicious. But the gal in this question was about his format in asking. He was required to place a formal request rather than about to asked if she like to get a bite. He couldn't be nice he needed some kind of formal format that she liked. That is one uptight lady. I guess she never indirectly says that she is going to the powder room or similar. being direct and formal she would expect him to declare that he was going to evacuate his bowels. After he could not just imply it but say he was going to the rest room or even that much. Its not about hurt feelings. Hell I have been told no DIRECTLY and it didn't break my heart.

No, according to me that is not flirting. It means that the perfume/deo/ scent the woman is wearing smells very nice, has a nice fragrance that's all.

It's a straightforward sentence. However, this may be misinterpreted as flirting which is not true.

Well, that is subjective. You thought that he didn't ask you out appropriately and so you declined. That's fine.

Not necessarily. I work w a lot of females, I may say something similar because I like the way it smells. I’ve gotten my girl a few of the scents my female co-workers were wearing cause I liked it, so I’d asked them. Not cause I was hitting on them. As far as going out, it’s possible but then I’ve had friends when I was single who I wasn’t interested in but thought they had a great personality that I’d ask if they’d like to hang out outside of work. It could go either way.
