Playing the cat and mouse game?

Okay so this may sound silly but I honestly don't know what people mean by playing the cat and mouse game. What does it mean when someone says that two people are playing the cat and mouse game?

It is in comparison to the hunter and the prey. It is my understanding that the guy likes to be the hunter. It is a fun game at first, but when it goes on too long then it gets frustrating and one of the parties, if not both is bound to lose interest. Then there are some who only like the chase or to be chased and would never let it go anywhere anyway. I was doing the cat and mouse thing with a guy for several months. It got to the point where I was in a mindset of 'Catch me already!'. hehe Well, for whatever reason he would never move forward, even after I told him I like him, but still continued to chase, so I have moved on. Now he is mad. WTH?!?! AND it seems if you turn the chase around on the guy, he runs. It is tiring. I think I want to be a cheese. Then I can play mouse and cheese and the mouse always gets the cheese, even if he loses his head over it. :p

Someone is playing hard to get...someone is chasing (cat) while the other is trying to get away (mouse)...the "mouse" may not really want to get away like a real mouse would but it's just a metaphor for someone chasing someone else.

It's subtle flirting. I like playing cat and mouse. Sometimes I'm the cat most times I'm the mouse. I like being chased. I don't give in easily and I can turn the tables once I got the guy and can easily go into kitty mode.

some people like to play games like that. one person (usually the girl) will like a guy who likes her back but when he tries to get close, she pretends like she's lost or losing interest. she does it cause she wants to see what the guy will do to keep her interested. some girls think its a way to see if the guy will be committed but at least 75% of the time it just drives the guy away. I hate that sh*t.

It means there's a chase going on and sometimes the cat (person 1) nearly gets the mouse (person 2) and the mouse barely escapes, but it just keeps going on and on.
