What does this guy tell you over his texts other than "hi"? Does he crack jokes with you or does he tease you? Give me one of your text conversation & we'll see if he likes you or if he's just be friendly. To me, if I text a girl with "hi" or ask her how her day went then I'm really into her. Like I said before, let me read a text conversation you had with him.
Have you two gone out by yourselves & why did you give him your number in the first place? Does he text everyday? That's a big indicator. If he texts everyday then he doesn't have much of a life. He's hooked on you for sure
By texting him back irregularly, you're giving him partial reinforcement.
Partial reinforcement is more effective than total reinforcement.
Best to not return his texts.
You should just be straight forward with him, whether you say please don't text me anymore, I'm not interested or just say your not interested. Don't be mean about it but just let him know straight up. If he still continues then there is a bigger issue.

I'm in the opposite situation as yourself.
I went for a date with a girl, and I've been texting her regularly. Only once a day. I don't send loads of texts. I'm worried that I may be over doing it. So I am going to leave the texts for a bit.
I would be totally appreciative if this girl told me politely not to bother, or just completely ignored my texts.
