Recently a guy friend has started DMing me, because I asked him if he had personal questions he is free to DM me (a not-so-subtle hint to DM me). He joked around saying "grandma wants me to DM her!".
I had gotten some signs he might be interested in me and took the initiative to add him and send a quick message. He has been DMing me for a couple of days now, initiating. But a lot of the DMs are 95% of the time either teasing, jokes or small debates about who is right/wrong.
I did question whether he was ok with talking about more personal things, but he made a weird reference. He calls me a "fan" and said he keeps his personal life and fan base separate.
Despite saying this he does frequently message me daily but I have been more open with my personal life to him hoping he will reciporcate back. I am getting tired of the constant joking to the point where I am wondering if its worth it.
I do like him, I think his cool. But the consistent jokes is getting boring, there is no depth in our conversations which I love.
How can I get him to talk about more personal stuff? I was gonna bring up more of his culture (his chinese) and see if it leads anywhere
But more advice or tips are great too!

Try playing 20 Questions and/or Would You Rather? with him and see how he responds. You can look up the questions online. It can be pretty fun, if the other person is willing to play. Either way, good luck. 😊
Thanks! I usually do not have this kind of issue. I am a bit hestitate because of his joking around a lot. I am usually a blabber mouth and always ask too many questions.
Hmm okay. I see. Again, good luck. 😊
Be careful not to ask him about his education life or what he does for a living too soon because that could be offensive to some people and tell a lot about you.
Talk to him
I do talk to him but he seems to go back to joking again!
