I have a huge crush on a guy and we do flirt a lot together. He teases me and I’ve seen him staring at me. However he will make jokes which makes me think he’s not interested. Why would he make these sort of jokes? Is it a polite way of saying he isn’t interested?

Hmm that is kind of confusing! On the one hand, joking around can be his way of flirting and being playful. But some of those jokes do sound like shut downs too.
A few possibilities:
- He may like the attention you give him but isn't really interested in anything serious. So he flirts back just enough to keep you engaged but won't commit.
- He could be shy or unsure of how you feel, so the jokes are a defense mechanism. Easier than being vulnerable.
- Maybe testing your reaction to see if you can take a tease without getting upset.
- Possibly trying to seem not too into you so you don't think he's desperate. Guys do that weird reverse psychology stuff sometimes!
Your best bet is to just be direct - laugh along with the jokes but also find a moment to casually say "hey, I actually do like you, so lmk if you ever wanna go out for real." Clear communication is best so you know where you stand! Don't let him string you along too long.
