Girls stare, but never approach. Why?

Often while going out in public. I see women staring at me with the contemplation of lust in their eyes. It's the basic stare down that many see often. It happens quite often (Not to be egotistical), and it is rare for girls to really approach me. I like to do a lot of public things by myself, and therefore are never truly in groups when shopping, or writing my book at cafes. So, I'm starting to wonder why girls stare, and never try approaching. It has even come to my attention that some stare off and on for a good 5 minutes or so, and still never make the attempt.

Side Note: I've been told that I am intimidating to approach, but yet I try to always have a friendly face, and smile when appropriate.

Women- Why do you rarely even consider the idea of approaching a man, and what does the guy need to do for him to become more approachable?

Men- What do you do to be more welcoming towards a woman's approach?

because girls wait for you to go and talk to them. that stare is probably intentionally done for you to see, so you can go approach her. they're signalling you to come hither. go approach!

seriously, when I can muster up enough courage to even give the come hither look, and the guy expects me to sum up even more of my courage (none-existent by that point) and talk to him? even if I really really wanted to (yup, almost always teh case) CANNOT bring myself to do that. too shy. too scared. too insecure about the possibility of him liking me.

so you go. if you think they're hot and could potentially be great, and they're giving you the look - what the f**k are you waiting for?

hm, I might start blushing EXTREMELY. I'd probably get flustered. If it's like "come here" I'd probably be like "wth?" and I'd not come over. you can't boss me around. I might be shy and insecure but I know that much! If you want me so bad, come here yourself. if you waved as in "hi" it's be a different story. then I'd probably wave back, laugh about the humor in all this and eventually- after continuing the sign convo for another minute-- come over. but you cannot expect the girl to do it all.

Depends on the women and the location. If you're at a bar and the woman is with a girl friend, changes are, she won't approach you. Actually, to be quite honest, most women won't approach you. Depends on how confidant and sure the woman is of herself and most woman don't posses those two qualities. They aren't confident that you will be mutually interested and instead of taking the risk and initiating conversation they will wait for you to make the first move. Women are vulnerable and don't want to take the risk of getting hurt.

With that said, you can approach them yourself or just wait till a confident woman comes into your life. Good luck!

Well I have no problem approaching the guy even though I might not be saying "Hey, what's your name?" I will probably be saying "Did you went to X high school?" just to open a conversation. Maybe those girls are thinking why you are not approaching them too, even though they already stare at you long enough to make sure you know that they are open for you to approach them...

Unfortunately unless you are a male model women are unlikely to regularly approach you. Most men are willing to approach women so they don't need to approach men. Looks like you are going to have to go and approach them instead!

Girls don't have to - they KNOW that the guys will come to them and that they don't have to work for it.

Girls are pretty much taught from a young age that a stare and a smile equals an invitation. And that if the guy doesn't take it, then he's not interested.

Of course, that's not always true. But how are we supposed to know the difference between a guy who's uninterested and a guy who's clueless? :P

DUDE come on! If they don't approach you, YOU go to them. Its simple. If you see someone you like, smile to them, watch her reaction then approach her. If she rejects you go find another one since you have so many ;-)

This is true... I guess I can't complain on the idealism of approaching the opposite gender. Mainly on the point that I notice, and turn my attention back to my work at hand. Almost 99% of the time don't make the effort to approach them, so I can't say much else otherwise.
