In a previous question on them, I got the impression that a lot of people hadn't heard of them. So is it just a British thing or do other countries have them
too?
While hot cross buns can definitely be found in the US, they aren't common or part of the culture or tradition for most people - they're definitely seen as more of a British thing. I think more kids know of the nursery rhyme than the actual bun - I'd guess that most Americans have never seen a hot cross bun in person. You kind of have to seek out a more traditional bakery to get them - and these do exist, but it's going to be far from every bakery that has them here. Maybe one in 3 or 4 will make them.
America is primarily a Christian country. But we don't have many European traditions. Over 60% of our population claim Christianity as their primary faith (even if much less are actually attending church regularly). Less than 5% are either Jewish or Muslim. Atheists amount to around 5% of our population. The rest are agnostic, but typically with a lean toward "I believe there's something greater, but I'm not sure what it is."
Your question implies that "America" isn't a Christian country. And you're correct! :D
Anyway, no, it's not just in England that they have them. We have them too. And I've heard that in Iceland they're getting rid of them, and replacing the cross with a tick, because apparently Christianity "offends" some weaklings over there.
You can buy them here all year long.

I haven’t seen hot cross buns in the stores but I have seen devil dogs & devil squares.
America one the most libral and secular country face of the earth.
I think the UK messed up with losing America. We should invade again 🤣
It was illegal in America up until the 40s for a woman to wear trousers in public. You've one of the highest ages of consent in the west, abortion is illegal in several states and your looking to reinstall a 150 year old law to ban contraception. You don't have total freedom, you have thousands of laws. As for liberal you lot are so far to the right I'm surprised you're not all going to work.
@purplepoppy we should definitely invade again lol
Already started. Divide and conquer as they say. Couple more years and they'll be begging me to be emperoress.
Lmao. This made me laugh today. Thanks @purplepoppy

Now both become the best friends and coalition.
I don’t recall having them or seeing them but I just googled them near me and yes, the major stores carry them along with a national bakery. King Cake is a bit more common in displays but perhaps I just never noticed them.
The US has hot cross buns but not that common.
I guess whether or not you consider America a Christian nation or not depends on who you listen to. If you listen to traitorous politicians like Obama or his liberal squad you would think we are a bunch of either heathens or satanists. Unfortunately a country founded on FREEDOM is left open for those who live to hate. As far as the buns go, I see them around in bakerys. So I guess we're a Christian nation.
i never saw them in bakery windows in new york. i guess the custom of eating it, is not common here.
but that is unrelated to being a "Christian culture". just one of many various customs for Easter.
Yes they sell hot cross buns here in America. I've had them a few times and they were pretty good
They are not a big thing in the US. They exist, but are rare.
I think Liberal people everywhere should be banned from hot cross buns.
They don't believe in what hot cross buns signify so a day or two in prison if they eat them is in order
I don't eat em anymore , and no idea if you can get em in USA , but if I were consuming carbs like this its one I do miss... but life goes on.
I’ve noticed a few get hot n cross and a few nice buns
in Texas... they would be have to be deep fried to get accepted
What is a Christian country, one that only allows Christians?
They don't taste the same.
We got them in South Africa.
People say they see them bit not like over here
But *
Just the shit countries.
Yeah we have them.
Catholic countries have those.
Those buns have nothing to do with Christianity.
Yes we do.
