There's an easy reason why you're matching with the ones you're tired of matching with: you're swiping them right. The algorithms rank users that way, and people who swipe everyone right get lower ratings, so you see people who also have lower ratings. In that sense your deleting it probably was a good idea anyway. Guys who have better standards tend to also get better matches, speaking from experience.
