Why are so many pretty girls insecure about their appearance?

In my subjective opinion appearance matters to some extent. But if girls looks is higher than let's say 6,5/10 guys notice that she is pretty and start looking at her character and etc. So personally I see no reason for pretty girls to feel insecure. But most of the girls I know have this problem. Can you explain me why?

Multiple reasons. The first is of course women know fully well that men make our *initial* judgments based heavily on their looks.

Combine that with billion dollar industries whose sole job is to make women feel ugly so they can sell them crap, and it's not hard to see that beautiful women truly don't see themselves as such.

because we see ourselves every day and we know our flaws and when someone tells us we're pretty, we think they're lying knowing. also, depending on the person, it's very easy to assume that the compliment is tied to seeing us sexually and wanting more.

People are defined by the way they rank certain values over others. And due to unique way humans have evolved for the last few thousand years or so, there are subtle differences between men and women in the way we prioritise certain values over others.

Generally, women value external appearance more than men. Most women are reflective of their appearance than men. When a women looks in the mirror, she is probably a lot more critical of her self than a man. Often to an obsessively unhealthy level.

That's a long winded way of saying, men generally think they are better looking than they are. For women it's the opposite. Because rightly/wrongly (wrongly IMO) they place to much emphasis on their external looks and fear how other people (probably other females) will judge them. If your constantly obsessed by the way you look and divert most of your energy to looking that extra bit polished, then your priorities are all wrong. Your external appearance will only get you so far in life and relationships

Having said that, men are probably more conscious of their fitness. We tend to hit the gym more and be more physically active.

Because it is destilled in our minds from a young age that there is pretty and not pretty. We learn and try our best to see ourselves and others for the inner beauty but then the guy we like likes the girl we believe to be beautiful more then us or someone we love and are committed to is not commited solely to us and we inescapably accept that we were not enough for that person and since the person whom did us wrong couldn't possibly know the girl he chose over us we must conclude that he simply made the choice due to his attraction.

I don't know what that feels like though , im not pretty or attractive but im not insecure about it anymore. though when i meet a pretty yet insecure girl it used to hurt me a little.

Because of two things: 1. Guys often don't approach pretty girls, thinking that they are already taken or out of their league, and so they feel unwanted. 2. Being a woman is a case of the grass is always greener in the other pasture. If you're a small breasted blonde, you want to be a big breasted brunette, because that what your friend is, and she always gets more attention than you, etc.

Anyone who takes hundreds of selfies is not ashamed with how they look and/or have low self esteem even if they say they do. Its all a ploy to make you feel bad for them so they can manipulate you better (even if they don't know they're doing it). Its basic behavioral psychology, if they fit this image and they get more out of it than embracing what they actually feel about how they look. Because if they were to act this way they coming off as condescending or stuck up and in the long run they get less out of it. This is a great example of positive reinforcement, simply they get more by this behavior.

Because everyone has their insecurities, it’s just a part of living. Same with anyone, if someone is say insecure about their weight, telling that person their weight is fine won’t change their opinion on it. So if you tell a pretty person they’re pretty they’re not going to believe it just because people say it’s so.

Maybe they have low self-esteem regardless of and that affects their perspective on their appearance too. Also people sometimes assume one may get many compliments and be cocky about it, so they don't say anything good, which makes the other even more insecure. I always compliment others, if I feel so. We need more positivity in life.

They get used to the compliments & gazes, extra attention that they feel they have to maintain & hold onto that's. Their self worth and attractiveness relies on what other people think. On the other hand there are women that are pretty accept it but know beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They love themselves & know they don't base their own beauty out of the thoughts of others.

I literally just asked a question relating to this. I think a lot of girls believe the more prettier we are are life's will get better with it but even when we get to compliments we seek of so much it's not good enough we have to be the most beautiful woman that ever lived so were constantly trying to look for what needs fixing and what's wrong with us and focus on it so much we start to believe were ugly again.

Because society has such insane, unrealistic standards of what is beautiful. For example, the insanely skinny supermodel body is considered to be the perfect body, and if a girl isn’t that skinny and has even the tiniest bit of meat on her bones she’s immediately labelled as fat and disgusting and is shunned like a leper.

I think it's partly an influence of a social media. There is a lots of instagram girls who post 'perfect' photos. They got thousands of likes and are really appreciated by people. So 'normal' girls look at them and take them as a goal. They compare themselves and don't find themselves pretty because they don't look same...

Well we tend to not believe we are pretty or (my perspective) I get called beautiful or cute or pretty constantly and sometimes it is draining because people may cat call you or envy you. It can be draining which can lead to insecurity. That's why most pretty girls are insecure of their appearance.
