Why is this girl giving me such a hard time?!

Long story short, I met this girl 5 years ago and thought she was pretty attractive, nevertheless I never did anything and my friend attempted to date her (without any success, she never returned his phone calls after the first date) after it was discovered from the grapevine that she was interested in my friend. Well 8 years pass by, turns out she is a friend of a friend of a friend. (One of those, it's a small world kind of deals) I am currently hanging out with her in the same circle of friends. She occasional texts me, calls me, makes an attempt to make time for special events that are in my life. Nevertheless when we are in a group together she gives me a hard time. She will consistently make fun of me harshly, will ask for me "not to look at her," and will tell me to move away if I happen to sit next to her. Situation is I get no hints that she is the least bit interested in me which is fine, I'm a grown up and will accept that, nevertheless what is the reason why she is so mean/cruel to me but at the same time will text/call on occasion and make an effort to hang out one on one or with a group. I really don't get it?!

This is funny. Not your situation, the way she is. Ever heard the term from other guys about a chick "she only dates asshole"? Well, she's the asshole in a womans form. Maybe that's her way of being flirtatious, and seeing what your reaction is. Or, she could just be the type on woman that likes to belittle people she has an interest in in groups. I had an ex that acted one way when it was just us, and then she kind of got ballsy, and started acting kind of arrogant.

Maybe this is what you've came across. Ask her flat out what her deal is, if she asks you "what are you talking about?", give her an example. If she still continues with this "I don't know what you're talking about", then she's obviously doing it subconsciously, and she targets you because you're maybe the one she knows more in-depth level than the others in the group.
