Is she single? girl saying guy is like a brother?

I saw a girl at a party that I thought was really cute. She was dancing and having fun and grinding with a guy. I assumed that she was taken but decided to take a risk and have one of my close friends who is a girl go and meet her and talk to her. She was talking to her and eventually they got to talk about the guy she was with and dancing with and asked if that was her boyfriend. The girl said he was a “brother”? Obviously we know that he wasn’t actually her brother but maybe she meant to say he’s like a brother?
confusing stuff just curious if this means anything and if I should still shoot my shot or maybe they are actually together?

The back story is confusing to say the least , for me there is no harm in being direct , either refer to him as her boyfriend in a conversation with her to ask indirectly of just ask if she is single and if asked why you be honest and say you think she’s cute and take it from there. I understand it can be about rejection and not wanting it to get back to the guy but in my opinion girla kinda like a more direct approach

She's not referring to him like a brother but more like someone she feels really comfortable with and to her your an unknown

Haha thats kind of weird if she meant either way. Like if he’s like a brother then why would she grind on him? And if he is her brother, like i said why would you do that? She a little wacky
