Women have kids for themselves. They go through the risks involved in pregnancy because they themselves want kids. A woman who is actively looking to choose a partner to have kids with will typically choose partners who they believe would make good husbands and fathers, people who also want kids and are able and willing to be a supportive partner.

She's probably looking for a man who is good with kids, even-tempered, desires commitment, and has a good job. When you're thinking about kids, it all has to do with making the future kids happy and healthy and emotionally fulfilled.

But she's bearing his children and those children will have his name despite her doing everything to bring them into the world and caring for them. The maternal bloodline means nothing to our society. It's a bad deal for women.
