A girl I like said "we should be friends first and then see" when I confessed but she's not looking for a relationship, what does that mean?

I didn't know her too well when I confessed to her, and she told me that. There's been a day where she was really close and wanting to hug me, but these days it's back to normal. It's really confusing but her friends say she's picky. We have hanged out before and it's been pretty good and making slow progress, but recently she's said she's still trying to figure out her feelings. What direction am I headed towards to?

She sounds like she is not sure if she is ready for a relationship but at least willing to see if something develops. The fact she says she wants to be friends first means she wants to see how things go as friends before deciding to take a step into an exclusive relationship.

If that isn't something that interests you, I think you will have to move on. Perhaps in the past she has moved too quickly and things went bad. If she is really worth it to you, you will respect her wishes.

When you think about what she wants, is that all that wrong? Being friends first is a good way to see if you are compatible without jumping into something serious and finding out you are wrong for each other.

You will just have to make a choice as to whether she means that much to you to take it slow or not. If not, don't waste her time or yours.

Yup, I think she's told me that she moved too fast before which is why I'm thinking she's going slow this time. I'm definitely sticking around and trying to know her better. She means a lot.
