How do you know if theyre interested?

I met two sets of girls yesterday working an event.
One girl was setting up her coffee booth... her coworker, female, told me her name.. but the other didn't...
The other time... co worker and me seem to hit it off, but couldn't tell.. she gave me her number, but i think it was just a job thing...

If they were interested it would be absolutely clear. Right?

Sadly no. Many people, women especially, think that subtext is enough.

I grew up with mostly men in my life, besides my mom (who also grew up with mostly men in her life), and so I know more often than not it's better to be clear and direct. Women tend to be more inclined towards letting others figure things out.

There's a whole big reason for this behavior that goes back to how society molded people, but I won't go into it here.

Basically, your best bet is to just ask. And phrase it like "Hey this might be lame, but I just want to make sure I'm not misunderstanding the situation."
Yeah there's a decent chance you misread things and they'll be upset about it. But more likely, no matter if you misread it or not, they will appreciate the fact that you don't want to assume.
