Im a bisexual girl and I just became friends with a girl at college (who I’m currently crushing on). She is super nice to me in person but is really shy. First day of class she approached me and introduced herself after I complimented her outfit then I gave her my number but I noticed she could barely maintain eye contact with me and looked down at her phone a lot and kept saying “sorry if I’m holding you up” . Before talking, she lingered behind me before she was confident enough to say her name and shake my hand. When she did text it was short responses and it’s been 2 months since she responded back (it’s on iMessage so I can’t tell if she read it or not) however she still does smile and wave at me when she pass by each other. If I am right behind her when we leave class and she’s aware, she walks slowly and matches my pace as she looks down at her phone before I initiate the conversation. However when we’re not next to each other after class, she leaves quickly. She maintains full eye contact when we talk and stuttered a little last time I made small talk. These are a few signs🤔
Perhaps that she is aware that you are into girls as well and that puts her into an uncomfortable situation because she is uncertain whether you are going to hit on her as well.
Often, what seems to be a shy reaction is only a protective reaction to something that is unknown or where one does not know how to address the situation.
Are you interested in that girl? If yes, did you ever mention to her that you like both genders? If yes, how did she react?
I tend to distance myself from people that I know could represent a certain danger for me or that make me uncomfortable because I don't want to confront them and cause a possible misunderstanding.

Did you tell her the reason as to why you approached her when you first did?
It is really hard to tell from that description. Perhaps, being a friend is what she wants?
If you think she likes you, ask her out. She probably does.
