I think jealousy comes from feelings. If someone deeply likes you, they get jealous of the most ridiculous things because in their head, they're thinking that person is mine how dare that girl or guy get so close to him or her he or she likes me that person just looked at me and smiled he or she likes me and so on. We do it, guys and girls, without us knowing that we do it. And jealousy also comes from thinking about it too much because you're questioning yourself too many questions about the person which mkaes you wonder more and notice stuff about that person which triggers our jealousy. Hope you understand this :)
Being jealous is being insecure, why would you want to pretend to be insecure?
I think if it seems like he's acting jealous, then he's probably not acting. He might be keeping it under control and making it seem like he's joking so that he doesn't seem like that jealous type of person, but if a guy likes a girl then it's likely that he'll feel at least a small burning inside.

I’m not a guy, but I hope this helps. a guy I dated flat out told me he did that to get a reaction out of me… my best friend says she does it all of the time and doesn’t feel a thing… (and also mentioned that guys have done it to her many times) so it could be manipulation and them just wanting to be in control, or it could possibly be real if you think that they really like you.
