I didn't clean nor cook till I was 30, is this embarrassing?

I've spent all my 20's on two majors (I studied one but then switched to a different one; eventually graduating), going out with friends to parties sometimes and getting drunk, wasting time on a dead-end relationship, playing board games and working.

I admit there was enough time to learn back then, esp on my day off or when I didn't have classes. Instead I didn't feel like it. I was used to my mom cooking and my parents sometimes cleaning my room.

Time flew fast and I'm now 35 years old. So far I've learned to cook and cleaning at age 30 and baking at age 32. I'm a fast learner though (I was already better than my mom in just 2-3 months) and nowadays you can just use google and youtube. I learned late. Isn't this embarrassing?

I feel embarrassed though. I really had no valid reason to not learn back then. I was lazy back then.

You can cook and clean now... that is what matters.
Some people never learn and refuse to even try. Now those people are embarrassing. You cannot count on your parents forever so it's a critical life skill to learn. You have admitted an error and made up for it. Don't let the past trouble you too much ☺️

No you did what you we’re supposed to do , you finished school. Your parents rather have supported you with cooking and cleaning back then than you invested time in the domestic arts.

True. At the time, all they wanted was for me to have an education and work.

No. It took a few years to understand of why the hell I was so unhappy with life. Aaand I only know of a few dishes to make that keep me alive and full. We all learn at our own pace :D

Not cleaning until you're 30 is the only part that's a bit shocking. Your toilet must have been filthy and somebody had to at least take the garbage out.

In my country, it's normal to still live with your parents. I was used to my mother doing the cooking and cleaning. Sometimes dad would help out with the cleaning.

True. I've never lived with a boyfriend ever. I'm in a relationship now but we're not doing cohabitation, we're going to live together after getting married.

In my country it's common to still with your parents. My parents used to clean my room sometimes, mom cooked and she did all the other cleaning.

I had a girlfriend that was a real slob. She never cleaned her place. Even her bed had piles of laundry on it. She just kicked them on the floor and they stayed there.

Ok that's worse than how I was back then. In the end I learned and I guess that's what counts. I think these factors didn't motivate me to learn:
My mother never taught me to cook
My parents were only focus on me having an education and working
My ex boyfriend asked for too much without doing his part too, didn't motivate me (ex: coming late to our dates suddenly, only coming for sex and then leaving, always broke, never learned how to drive, etc)... He wasn't doing his part and had the nerve to demand a traditional girl. Ironically he always was into splitting the bill, lol... how are you going to demand a traditional girl that cooks and cleans if you're going dutch on practically all dates, always broke, not doing your part, etc. LOL

Lastly my past boyfriend tried to BS that I was wasting his time... he wasted my time with his ''Oh I love you forever, oh one day we'll get married, oh the moon and the stars''... keeping me forever in the honeymoon stage of fantasy. My parents hated him from the start. We can also react base on how a man behaves too. If he's not an inspiration and the relationship never progresses, obviously the girl gets stuck too.

okay- everybody has to staert someplace. I teach computer science at a local college. I tell my students the same thing. Many of these kids are real hard luck cases and many do not have access to a computer. It does not mean they are stupid. Everyone has to start somewhere.
You just need to figure out how to make a bed, clean a bathroom and run a dishwasher. Then maybe make some chicken soup not out of a can. I was unemployed during Covid and I cooked a rib roast on my gas grill. I can;t cook either but I did it anyway.

By now I already know all that. The good thing is I had an idea on how to cut vegetables and meats; that came natural. The first thing I ever learned to cook was beans, then progressed quickly to doing KFC coleslaw (my favorite salad), fried rice and other foods. Afterwards, I started cleaning the bathroom. I'm a fast learner and could've done it back then.

I think I was a hidden natural cook and cleaner. That's why I learned faster.

True. I knew I was no where close to getting married and never got pregnant either. In my 20's, I felt like a young woman with freedom and no real responsibilities besides going to college and working.

Useless? It's not my fault my parents didn't demand nor motivate me to get into the kitchen. My mother never taught me those things. I learned it online. They found it more important for me to finish college and work. At least I did something in life during those years. Come to think of it, I wasn't totally lazy overall, only lazy in the house.
At least I know it by now.

It doesn't matter honey. You can learn from the Internet everything. Recipes, cleaning tips etc. They are really easy. I don't do always but I know little.

Besides going to college and working, I had no other responsibilities at the time. In addition, if your parents spoiled you, then I guess there is less motivation.
