Should I be worried that my boyfriend is shallow?

Me and my boyfriend have a normal relationship. when we first started dating I thought the world of him but since its been a year I've been noticing a few things. On one of our dates he stared at a girl who walked by and she was thin a pretty. But when a heavy set girl walked by he paid no attention. ? (I thought she was very pertty) I asked him about it and he said He doesn't like big girls because he doesn't want to get squashed. Why do some guys do that? And how did I fall in love with someone like that?

1. Yes, you should be worried that your boyfriend is shallow. He's only going to date you until he can get a hotter girl or your looks fade. If that. He might just get bored of you before that.

2. Why do some guys pay no mind to fat girls? Most guys don't find fat girls attractive, and so we don't notice them the same way we notice pretty girls. Whether or not you thought she was pretty is irrelevant, girls seem to be fairly bad at telling what guys think is attractive. As far as what he said in response, I dunno. He was probably just being flip.

3. I have no idea how you fell in love with a shallow guy. Could be any number of things - he had superficial charm that drew you in, he did not behave like a shallow guy until very recently, you have bad taste in men, you just got unlucky, etc. Or even the whole "birds of a feather flock together."

The fact that you found her attractive is irrelevant. Everyone has their own standards of beauty. When I say "everyone," I mean everyone, not just your boyfriend, and not just guys. You can't expect someone to be attracted to everyone. That's a little ridiculous.

Honestly, him being shallow will make it easier for you to fall out of love with him. The sad reality is that in this world, most guys are very disappointingly shallow and they think it's okay to be a jerk to a girl who's not the prettiest or doesn't have the nicest body.

he's superficial because he doesn't like fat girls? I'm a fat girl and I don't find that shallow, everyone has a type that they like and don't like. I don't particularly appreciate the "i'm gonna get squashed" sentiment but wtfever not everyone likes us and I don't care

It's not shallow, it's basic human nature. We stare at people (or the vulgar stare, but that's another issue) who we find attractive. Do you want the poor bugger to pay attention to the big girl out of political correctness?
