Is it rude to give a dirty look to someone staring at you?

Staring makes me uncomfortable and I don't like it. I don't care if it is some random person sitting down at the food court in the mall, some creepy looking guy, someone who looks like a criminal, someone who looks like a snob dressed up probably overly educated and thinks he or she is better then everyone else, or even a hot (or not so hot...) girl.

I just find it very rude, invading, and disrespectful. So I mostly give a dirty look and they usually look away or look angry unless he/she is a super creep and doubles down on it

While I agree with what you’re saying I don’t believe in giving dirty looks as that can be rude. I know I catch myself staring sometimes even if I don’t mean it in a rude way. Sometimes people could just have an interesting style of clothes. I usually give people staring at me the benefit of the doubt as they could be spaced out of it could be me just being insecure and believing they are staring at me. Also I don’t think staring is really bad, humans are built to be naturally curious when they see someone new. The only thing I would firmly say yes give them a dirty look is when it’s a creep staring at you.

That’s true most of the times I done it it was a accident. Like you said a style of clothes, maybe I thought someone was pretty, unless someone is flat doing something weird. Then i might stare at them.

But other then that yeah. I do notice people staring at people on wheel chairs a lot or people with one arm or leg

I 100% agree with you, that staring is rude. However, giving someone a dirty look is also rude. Just give them a friendly wave or smile in return of a dirty look. You will probably get more of a reaction from that. Or, just completely ignore them and look the other way.

I have a feeling creepy people many times enjoy creeping people out. It’s all they can do. So I guess it gives them power making them uncomfortable

Yes it is rude but I definitely get why you feel it necessary. Sometimes ignoring the idiots is the best way to go...
