Is it cringe to ask a girl if she wants to kiss?

So I was at a bar with my friends on Valentine's Day and we were at a table with these girls. I could clearly see one of them was eyeing me and my friends obviously saw it too as they left us alone together shortly after.

So we talked a little bit. Can't say I was super interesting, I have very little experience talking to women so it was the general chitchat about college and stuff. But she did look into me. She was putting her face close to mine. Eventually I said something stupid because I was drunk and didn't know how else to move it forward. I said "wanna kiss?" and then she said "that was a bit too straight forward" and I think she said "you should've just went for it" but I can't remember exactly.

Anyway after that she said she was getting drinks so I got us drinks and she left with it. Once I caught up with her, she was talking to another guy. No offence to the guy but it was obvious she wasn't actually going to do anything with him. Nevertheless he kept trying to act superior saying stuff like "I think she's occupied, maybe you should come back later" which was funny.

So like I knew would happen, she did nothing with him and left again, this time talking to a girl who she started making out with for the rest of the time I was there. For the first few minutes she would look to see if i'm looking, unless i'm delusional.

So basically, was what I did really this much of a turn-off? She looked like she wanted to kiss me, but I didn't know for sure. I know this wasn't the coolest thing to say, but I didn't think it would completely make her lose interest.

Also, was there anything I could've done to fix this after the "wanna kiss"?
