I am not sure a mechanic is a manual laborer or if so, not the only kind. I think there are a lot of manual labor jobs that are often done by women, for example sewing. I think it is OK if there are more men doing one job and more women doing another as long as it balances out overall and people can do what they individually want to do and are good at. JMO!

Men and woman are born suited better towards different things. That doesn't mean that a woman can't be a worthwhile hire for a job in let's say construction where you carry heavy things and your body takes a lot of abuse.
But a woman will probably have to work a lot harder to be able to do that job than a man just because of things like muscle mass and bone density.
Any woman mma fighter could kick my ass with a hand tied behind their back, but if you take the best woman fighter in any weight class and put them up against the best man in the same weight class, science dictates she's going to have her work cut out for her.
I've worked in auto shops and there's almost no women but the ones I saw had something to prove and they were usually the best people to have around in terms of talent.
This one girl I remember used to get tires on and off of rims faster than anyone and she was good at diagnosing problems too.
But when a bolt got stuck or something was in a location that could easily cut up your hands she'd have to call on one of the men.
Diversity adds value. And when people understand that fully, they're gonna feel so stupid for making sexism (in its current meaning where any difference between men and woman no matter how empirical) a bad thing, they're gonna say "how stupid and underdeveloped did we as humans used to be"
Probably because is requires strength. You get dirty. It's hard on the hands and you can get injured. Girls don't like busted knuckles and damaged nails.
I suppose it could also be that girls aren't taught such things by their fathers and, therefore, aren't interested in such things.I usually get paid for talking.
I once repaired a broken armchair though, because it belonged to my great grandpa, and I didn’t want to throw it away, they still use it 8 years later.
That’s the only manual thing I’ve done.
I've had my fair share of friends who wanted to do manual labor but quit due to the culture of the workplaces. They'd have to deal with a lot of crap & they didn't think it was worth it.
Just like a lot of men are less likely to do care work - due to how they get viewed as. And we do need more men there. Luckily where I'm at - that is slowly happening.
Not many women are attracted to that type of work. For some of the work I used to do, extremely few women would even be able to do the work.
It's not just manual work. I worked in engineering over 20 years before I ever met a woman engineer. I hear programming is much the same.
By the way, the last set of tires I bought for my car a woman installed them. I don't know if she was a full fledged mechanic, but if not she was probably on her way.
I've always wondered about the gender gap when it comes to certain jobs. Its not like there's laws prohibiting women, or men, from certain work.
And it's certainly not like women physically or intellectually can't do them.
So I wonder if Jeremy Clarkson was onto something when he said too many parents buy their daughters dolls and ponies instead of putting them in go-karts. 🤔Depends... I can't lift and carry heavy stuff like a man, but I am able to perform other tasks that men traditionally do. I wouldn't want a job where I'm always dirty and my hands turn hard and callused. I like to be clean, soft, and pretty.
Can I? If I have to…prob. can. But I have ran away from any since I was a kid.
why men…? They have to? Stay away from their nagging wife? 😂Men and women are equal not identical. Women are more suitable for some jobs, men are more suitable for others. That is not to say there are not many exceptions.
Men are stronger.. men don't mind getting dirty, men are actually interested in those type of things. Where as women we usually don't have a interest or a knack for these jobs
so what? vast majority of nurses, teachers, social workers, therapists are women.
why do you think vast majority are women? men can't do the job?
Girls aren't encouraged or expected to know the value of learning manual labour.
It's like if a guy plays with barbie and marries her off to Ken, people would stigmatize his behaviour.During WWII women did a ton of manual labor jobs to make up for men who were drafted, We did just fine.
The issue is not ”can you” because yes, women could do those jobs. It’s about interest. Most women just aren’t interested in jobs (or hobbies even) related to those fields.
A mechanic is more like skilled labor these days. Manual labor is more like rote factory jobs or ditch-digging.
in the workshop next to me there are 5 female workers and are very busy all the time
Of course girls can do those jobs. They choose not to and want to pursue other goals in life.
Those jobs typically require physical strength, women aren't as strong as men.
Nah, but they can do housework, and the good ones can cook.
I can't fix a car, I have no clue about cars
