What does locking eyes randomly unintentionally mean?

I was in group of friends and while someone else said a joke I laughed and I looked at my friend instinctively and she looked at me at same time. But for some reason I didn’t look away and we both looked into each others eyes and we both laughed for good 2-3 seconds may be I don’t know. But I felt so warm and connected with that one gaze. Like we both see each other sort of. I have asked her out years ago and she said no. Has never thought about approaching again. We became friends though as we hangout in groups all the time. But when this locking of eyes happened, it felt different, weird. I wonder whether she has feelings for me or whether it is all in my head?

If you felt something, chances are she did too.

It's the same concept as hateful eye contact. You can feel someone's anger when they look at you mean. Except this is sexual

I don’t know it felt different. Usually eye contacts in groups are really short. We look at the eyes of person speaking or listening may be. In this case neither of us were talking at that time. But when laughing at someone else’s joke both of us instinctively looked at each other and kept looking in the eyes. Right after the moment I was like what just happened. It felt warm.
