I was at a conference for work, so of course that means interacting with and meeting a lot of new people. I was seated at a table with some individuals, and the woman next to me introduces herself. We exchange a few words about the event, but what threw me off is one of her first questions was “so how long have you been married?”
I had never mentioned that I was married (though I did have my ring on). We had probably only been talking about 30 seconds at that point. I later found out from another friend attending the conference that this girl had a crush on me and eventually found out by word of someone else that I was married.
What is the behavioral reason for asking about my marriage so soon in a conversation like this?
Is this someone I should avoid if I run into her again in the future?
