I have noticed most of the dark skinned women (especially from parts like Asian countries) are kind of embarrassed about their skin colour and most even try to hide it or do something about it to lighten it as much as possible.
Why is it so?
Personally I find dark skinned women to be more attractive, exotic and appealing.
Mostly it deals with the social stigma all societies put on it in the past. China in the Han Dynasty (206BC -220AD) pale skin was for the royal court. As farmers and less educated laborers would be tanned from outside work.
Not much European colonial influence going on in the era of Chinese history. It isn't always Europe pushing the beauty standards.
Lighter skinned women get better jobs, win beauty contests and all the celebrities in Asian countries have lighter skin. It's the beauty standard there. It's unfortunate
It's mostly due to colorism and Eurocentric beauty standards and it's very prevalent in Asian countries especially. I've seen it in Black and Latino communities as well and darker skinned women are shamed for it.
It’s because of the way they are treated due to their skin color.

I think it has to do with self talk. Its like people why do blacks, calls them selfs the n word which is a put down and word curse. Words have the power to heal and kill..
Colo (u) rism. & European beauty standards. The world is conditioned to be in fair skinned people all over the world. Every continent.
From what I have seen they should be embarrassed about their behavior, not their melanin.
And here you got white girls tanning themselves till thier skin is the consistency of a leather handbag.🤣
