Why is she acting this way?

Recently, I've been introduced to a girl (S) through our mutual friend (F). The first time we met, everything went great, S even offered to cut my hair when I mentioned I want to get a haircut (tho F got angry for some reason and said she will cut my hair herself). Since then, S is avoiding me, sometimes seems mean to me, and won't even look me in the eyes when we are talking. There are some occasional acts of kindness from S thought, like offering to share a cigarette, brushing something off my knee, e. t. c. But apart from that, she avoids me like plague and seems really disinterested when we are talking. Why is she behaving this way?

Sounds like possibly she does this around the mutual friend maybe. I'd need some more context. This friend F is a girl or a guy? It could be a jealousy issue. You have no idea what has been said between the two of them in private. That's the only thing I can think of without more to the story. It just seems like she wants to be nice and friendly but also not upset this friend who seems to have an issue with her kindness to you.

F is a girl. I am absolutely sure there was nothing said about me between the two in private. My question, more specifically is, why would she offer to cut my hair if she seems to really dislike me?

I doubt she does dislike you. My guess is there is some jealousy from the other girl and so the girl you were introduced to is trying to act like she doesn't care. Just a guess.

Thank you for your answer. One last question, the first I met with S, she complimented and my looks and offered to give me a haircut, do you think it could possibly mean she likes me? I want to befriend her as I like her, but am unsure if it would be better to just leave her alone?

I definitely think she did like you. Now the question is what happened between F and S that caused the change.
