I’m almost every interview I can tell that they start disliking me as soon as I tell them about myself. Since I’m a student I can only tell them about my major and my internships but for some reason they start looking for reasons not to hire me. I do have friends in university that have an easier time finding jobs and I know that they are not much better than me. So why do managers dislike me? Is it that I don’t come off as qualified enough or am I just not likeable (problem in my demeanour, too cool etc etc?).
Well how do you know for sure they’re instantly looking for reasons not to hire you? There could be a few reasons why they aren’t hiring you. For one could be your personality as far as when you go into an interview. Your experiences in previous interviews may be showing unintentionally so you’re projecting some sort of personality that may not look the best. Because i. You’re mind more than likely you’re going in there w the attitude that they’re not going to hire you. Two of its a female and if you’re pretty she may feel threatened by you. Maybe she just doesn’t want to hire a female. Not just her but men may do the same as well not wanting to hire females because of drama. I’ve read a number of post w men not wanting to hire women now because they could be accused of something. On the other hand maybe your friends are getting hired easier than you because they’re prettier than you. Obviously the boss being a man. It happens a lot. A lot of women who are in positions get hired off their looks, not so much their ability. Even off of quotas. So yes it could be a lot of reasons. You jot having experience as well is another reason. There was a study done. A number of women went into an interview, but before they went in the makeup artist put a scar on their face to see whether it would deter then person from hiring them. But before they went into the interview the makeup artist told them they wanted to touch up her makeup. When in reality they removed the scar. When the ladies came out from the interview they all pretty much felt like the interviewer was looking at their scar the whole time. Basically it was in their head.

This is a limited information question. We really don’t know enough about you to give you a specific answer.
So here is a general one. When I ask someone to tell me about themselves what I am looking for is education 10% who you are really 90%. Why that ratio? Because I read their resume already. I know their education, now I want to know more about who that person really is. Things not in the resume. I want to know these things because I want to know if you will fit with my other employees.
Remember, everyone that interviews is a “team player”. Everyone is educated….
When I interview I want to hear that you are on the church bowling league or pickle ball league. That might sound funny but it shows that you are a team player
What I don’t want is when I ask you to tell me about yourself you read to me your resume, I can read it myself.
