How does a friend react when you tell her you like her friend?

she didn't seemed surprised or encouraging. it was a very neutral response. in fact she pretty much ignored it but invited me to events at church where he will be there as i stopped going. they have been friends for 10 years so they are close but im surprised by any lack of surprise or any reaction
