A group of my girl friends and I are going to meet a woman who may or may not become a friend and may or may not be set up with our mutual friend, *Darren.*. I fear that this woman, *Grace;* and I, may not have much in common and trying to get acquainted with her might be awkward. I often find myself in awkward situations; and I think this will be another one.
Here are some ideas of things you could talk to Grace about to help break the ice:
- Common interests - ask what she likes to do for fun, hobbies, favorite TV shows/movies etc. Maybe you have something in common.
- How she knows Darren/your mutual friends. Learning her backstory can lead to other convo topics.
- Where she's from originally. People love talking about their hometowns.
- Jobs/careers. Most women enjoy chatting work experiences.
- Compliment something she's wearing/her style. Flattery gets convos flowing.
- Bring up recent events in your city/town for conversation starters.
- Ask questions to learn about her as a person - family, dreams, favorite memories etc. Show you're interested in getting to know her.
Remember most people love talking about themselves, so keep the focus on learning about Grace. Smile, make eye contact and be a good listener. I'm sure you'll find your common ground! Try to relax - I'm sure you'll hit it off.

You don’t have to talk about anything. You’ll click and the conversation will flow, or it won’t.
You’re overthinking this. Just smile and chat with her. See if you like her for Darren and if you do, great. If you don’t, don’t lose any sleep over it.
Don't stress so much about it. :) You may talk about the trends right now or compliment her outfit. The conversation will flow from there.

Talk to her like she’s a guy. Guys are chill and you can say and ask anything and they don’t really care or overthink it. Just stay away from appearance or children type topics since we know women can be over sensitive about that.
