If A guy jokingly says "I love you" is there a possibility he could be interested?

Obviously I know he doesn't actually love me. We're friends, but not great friends, we don't really hang out but I've had a crush on him for a little while. He used to like me a long time ago but I'm not sure that he still does. He said it in more of like a thank you type of manner.

Behind every joke is some truth, maby you can find out in a playful way if he likes you or not.
One thing I often did to find out I started to talk about something that made me feel a bit uncomfortable in a funny way
So they end up laughing, then I jokingly told them : shall I make you feel a bit uncomfortable?
And then suggest the awkward game.
Goal of the game is make the other feel uncomfortable
You take turns and each turn you try to do 1 thing, slowly build this up
Ypu would be surprised where it could lead if both parties are interested and won't feel uncomfortable by what the other does ;)

I'm not a guy but if this was in a thank you type of manner, I don't think it means anything more than that he's really grateful.

Usually though I find what slips out of a guys mouth as a joke is actually the truth. Like when he accidentally says you're hot or accidentally refers to you and him as a couple. See if it happens again!

since he liked you before, he probably still does. I've had a guy friend say 'i love you' in sort of a non-nonchalant way and he had asked me out before and everyone thought he actually was in love with me soooo, there is usually some truth to a joke.
