What to do about a guy playing hot and cold?

So there's a guy I kind of like, we consider each-other to be friends, we talk and greet each-other often. However, lately things have been getting too weird. He stalks me on social media even though he does not follow me, he loves to tell me how boring and terrible other girls are as a possible way to suck up to me? he will jokingly say he hates me one moment and that he loves me the next. He even tries to make me jealous in various ways, like openly flirting with girls who are less popular/easier, and then shows me messages between them. I even discovered him snooping around outside my class, but upon confronting him he practically ran for the hills. What am I supposed to do about this? He’s a nice friend, and I may even like him somewhat/liked him at some point, but these games he plays are getting really annoying. Is he trying to get with me? Is he playing with me? Wanting me to notice him? What is he trying to get at and what am I supposed to do about it? Help !! I feel like I’m the middle of some sort of bad game !

If I had to make an educated guess, he's doing these things to get your attention. Sometime when it's just you and him you need to tell him that you're tired of these games, if he is interested in you tell him to let you know and if he's not stop the stupid games

I remember a girl once said this very thing to me. I had no idea what she was talking about. I thought she just had a chemical imbalance or something. I mean I knew of her, I talked to her a couple of times. But she seemed like she just created this long storyline of events kind of like this that never happened. But you could see it in her eyes she really believed it all happened.
