Guys wrapping their arm around a girl's waist: friendly move or more?

Would you guys wrap your arm around the waist of a girl you're not interested in? And is this meant to state "she's mine" if done in public?

No; guys will only hold a girl around the waist if they have some sort of relationship together. This means they're either dating or in a committed relationship.

I guess you could call it a statement that "she's mine," because it is telling other men that you two are together. I don't think guys do it for this reason though. Most boyfriends don't look at their girlfriends as possessions that no other man has access to. They hold their girlfriends around the waist because they like being close to her, like holding her body, it gives off the impression that they're their to protect her, etc.

A friend of mine keeps doing this plus other confusing moves. A few weeks ago we had a one night stand but he said he wants to live no strings attached at the moment and declined the idea of a casual relationship. Only that it really doesn't look like he lost his interest and I am very confused.

He thinks you're hot, and likes having sex with you... but he isn't interested in anything else that comes along with a relationship.

His ideal situation here would be friends with benefits

Sorry I wasn't clear in my previous comment: he declined Fwb! He said he values our friendship more and that going on with the sex would certainly lead to problems. But he's acting unconsistently :S

by the way recently he's also invited me to a dinner with some friends of his i didn't know and it was the first time after years of friendship. i could not go so i don't know what it would have been like

Hmm... maybe's he's having conflicting points of view.

A part of him finds you very attractive, and very much enjoys the physical nature of your relationship.

And another part of him knows that deep down he simply doesn't want a serious relationship with you, and doesn't think it's right to lead you on.

I've never wrapped my arm around a girl just to be friendly unless we were just dancing.
Wrapping your arm around a woman definitely seems slightly sensual to me.
