Why does my boyfriend need constant validation?

It happens when he does things. If he buys groceries he will make a point of saying, "I bought you your favorites,(naming off everything he bought) aren't I a great boyfriend". Whenever he does something like cooks supper or empties the dishwasher it's always the same thing, "aren't I a great boyfriend". It's driving me bonkers and we've had this discussion before. He'll even say things like "if I weren't around the garbage would never be emptied...hello, I could have washed all the floors but I don't make a point of it.

He has low self esteem lately because of his looks changing from certain medications. I don't know how many times I've told him I have no plans on leaving but he brings that up too. Help

maybe he is feeling insecure, guys like to hear good things about them, it's like sunshine to hear someone say "you are handsome" or " you ar good at that stuff". When you say you have no plans leaving him you don't raise his self esteem. He probally looks for attention or appreciation, especially from you.

Thanks cacapisu, although I do praise him for all the things he does for me he still does this. I'm sure you're right in that he may be insecure. I don't know how to deal with his constant need for attention and his insecurities. I don't know how to approach him about it cause it truly irritates me. Do I point blank tell him to get some help or what.
