I cleared up a misunderstanding with my crush, but do you think he believes me, because he's avoiding me now?

Crush was told from a "friend" that I was gunna ask him to the sadie Hawkins dance and that I like him.. his brother was a dick and went on IG live and was telling everyone. The thing is, I do sorta like him but I already had a date...

I texted my crush this:
"hey, just wanted to clear some things up. First off, i wanted to apologize for both Kelly and Cait because I don't know what they told you, but i already have had a date for the stupid ball thing and wasn’t planning on asking anyone else. Kelly and i aren’t really friends and cait keeps getting in my business for no reason. hope were cool?

he replied "hahahaha it's all good no worries" yet now avoids me and looks from a distance. He also told some of his friends... why is he avoiding me if he said everything was cool? He thinks I like him still? Embarrassed about his brother?

My other friend also heard that he feels like "class is really awkward now" but she didn't hear anything else

He's a crush, however you're treating him like one of your worthless guy friends. When he found out that you liked him, it will always give a guy a boost of confidence, however you then told him that you weren't planning on asking anyone else other than your real date. See the confusion he's feeling here? You also keep the atmosphere completely platonic and completely hide any signs of possible interest behind your friendly demeanor, and that's never something you want to do to anyone that you like. He is avoiding you know because he believes that you think of him as no more than a friend, deliberately clearing things up when someone else said that you liked him by hiding your feelings by "clearing things up" yourself. If he's smart, he'll move on.

but i don't think he had a crush on me... because my friend said "he wanted to stay friends and didn't want it to be weird between us, because he's not emotionally ready for a relationship due to his ex?"

Even so, he still negatively reacted to your platonic behavior. It's possible that he's avoiding you because he thought that he knew that you like him and doesn't want to lead you on, however this doesn't appear to be the case. And unless he said that to you, disregard what he said to his friend. He may not be emotionally ready for a relationship, but he could be inclined to one, especially if he likes you back.. you just need to help him a bit along the way. Remember, if a person likes you, they will be ready for a relationship with you.

whether he believes you or not either way the situation especially brought on by his brother is still awkward. just leave him be, let him keep his distance if he so likes. he's a guy though, he'll get over it soon
