Why does he face away when he sees me coming?

A few times this guy in my school saw me heading his way and he turns away when he sees me? He's pretty quiet but the thing is I know a lot of girls who likes him cause they think he's cute so I don't think he's shy, or maybe he is, I have no idea lol. I've seen him look at me before in class, he turns his head to where I am sitting, I've seen him from the corner of my eyes lol cheeky. I've heard that 'ohh when a guy turns away when he sees you is because he's shy or likes you and is too scared to face you' but it's weird cause he's pretty popular and it's just weird for him to be shy to me. I don't think I'm extremely pretty or whatever, so any opinions I'm open to hear!

How? Because girl's do similar when shy , I have learned this and just because he seems fine around other girls means nothing.
Why? Likely you are the one he likes so he cares about what you think/see and other girls he likes just as people/friends so he is OK to be more open with them.

I think you might be reading more into it than there is. If he's interested, even if he's shy, he's going to do more than this. He likely is just looking in your direction to see who it is. nothing more.
