Why won't he approach me?

I've recently started having small conversations with this guy I'm interested in who could very well be interested in me as he's constantly looking at me. If I notice him staring at me, he'll look away and try to act like he was staring straight ahead the whole time. Well I've finally worked up the courage to just walk up to him and talk to him a few times now and it's always gone well and we talk easily, although they've only been minute long conversations in the hallway. He always gets this goofy smile on his face when I say hi and I can't tell if he's sniggering because it's so obvious I like him or if he's genuinely smiling because he's happy I'm talking to him cause he likes me. I hardly ever see him, but I'm always the one approaching him, he never comes to me. When he sees me coming he gets kinda shy and tries to act cool but he'll drop everything he's doing if I actually talk to him. It's just weird I don't know why he won't ever come to me to talk I mean does it sound like he's interested or am I reading this wrong? & if he is interested, why doesn't he make any moves? He's a popular guy I wouldn't think it would be that hard for him to strike up a conversation with me, we actually have a lot in common, I've never met a guy I have more in common with. ?

I'm also good friends with one of his friends who has been helping me out trying to bring me to him so I can talk to him without it being super awkward. My friend doesn't know anything for sure but he's pretty sure he likes me although he has no evidence.

Also this guy is so short and I know some guys say they wouldn't want to date a girl taller than him and I'm the same height as him so it might help that I'm actually a girl in his height range.

Before I give my opinion to this matter, I want to congratulate you for taking the initiative forward and work up the courage to talk to this guy that you're interested with. Not many girls have a strong willpower or courage to really take the first step and as a result, this will give you a better advantage in being successful.

My answer for you is to keep doing what you're doing and be sure to take the first step in asking him out on a date and get to know him better. You have a very good keen eye and intuition in terms of finding the common signs that a guy will transmit (Eye Contact, The goofy smile) and with the common interests to where he continues to have a conversation with you, this sounds like you're having seconds thoughts. In all honesty, I see a success story waiting to happen.

But to give you a better sense of the situation, guys especially around your age group that I've witnessed often tend to veer towards waiting for the girl's response, rather than them initiate the conversation. They tend to get shy because it's their first time to respond to this kind of situation and or haven't done it multiple time to anticipate what would happen. Which is why, as guys get older and experience these things, we tend to understand how to approach women better than the last time.

Also, him and I have a mutual friend who's been trying to help bring us together very subtly and the other day I was joking around that I was having a bad day and that I was sad and my friend found my guy of interest and told him that I was having a bad day and that he should give me a hug because I was crying and I just said I'm not crying and my guy of interest just said "bad day huh? That's okay we all have those days" and walked into a classroom and my friend followed him in the room and told him to come back out but my guy said he couldn't because he was in class. Why did he skip out on the opportunity to give me a hug? Is he really that nervous around me that he wouldn't hug me?

Your friends were there when this happened, so I think he didn't want to show some kind of affection that can grab attention towards others. Keep his manly pride in check probably. How was his reaction during this situation? Did he gave that goofy smile and snickering sensation when you were in that situation together? When you were both meeting in the hallway, it sounded like there were more chemistry since you two were alone with each other.

He did have that goofy smile/snickering sensation when asked to hug me. I never thought of it like that. Our friend also told me that when he told him to come back out of the classroom that he smiled then like he was suspicious of what was going on and he was trying to figure it out. Our friend says my guy has been avoiding him lately which makes me wonder why he would do that. He's also pretty convinced my guy likes me and that he's just trying to figure out if I really like him too.

That's great news madisonandrew! I would probably bet he would've loved giving a hug to a beautiful girl like you and that showed he would have done it based on his response you've seen. When you have a chance, try to be alone like in the hallway and see how his response would have gone. I would bet he would react that way anyway.

The point is, he likes you, your friends are sensing the same way too. The question remains, have you asked your chance to get on a date with him?

Yes okay. I haven't spoken to him for a few days now and there's this one time of day where I'd sometimes see him and start talking to him and I notice he turns and looks at me like he's expecting me to walk over to him and start talking to him so I think that's good that he's become accustomed to my company and looks for it. My friend said he'll try bringing my name up in conversation with him since apparently they began talking again to see how he'll react. I still have to fit in a few more conversations with him before trying to set up any hangout sessions with him cause I still don't know him very well but I'm hoping that will change soon. He's usually in the school musicals so I'm planning on auditioning next month so I can have the chance to get close to him. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this goes well!

Sounds good Madisonandrews, if you still don't know him very well, it would be important to get to know him. Just chip away little by little and eventually ask him out. Just remember that you should not let this drag out very long as there are usually time limit to these things. I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything goes well for you too. I hate to say this but you may have to be the one asking for a date. Judging by what you posted its obvious that he may have a thing for you. Some guys just aren't that extroverted and I know for me that it took a while for me to get really comfortable around women that I liked and have the ability to talk to them or start conversations without sounding like an idiot. Don't worry about him coming to talk to you because its going to be hit or miss. Either he's finally going to get the courage to talk to you or your going to be wondering for the rest of the year why he isn't starting conversations with you. Its like a band aid and you got to get it over with quick. Just strike up a conversation with and subtly ask if he's doing anything this weekend. Trust me when a girl exudes confidence that makes her 10x hotter (maybe that's just me) and plus you initiating a date will make him like you more. But this is all relying on the point that he likes you too. Double check that he likes you and go ask him (ask one of his friends or something). Its better to shit your pants then die of constipation. Don't wait on him!! Its a weird saying but its 100% true.

Some guys are confident in life but shy when it comes to girls. He might be thinking the same thing that you are. He's probably wondering if you like him or your just being nice. Maybe test the waters and ask him to hang out sometime :)

As a 15 year old boy, I am best qualified to answer this question.
First of all, all the signs show that he likes you. As for why he isn't approaching you, the answer is simple. He is afraid of being rejected. You see, a guy's sex drive is very different than girls. If a girl approaches a guy, there is a 98% chance he will say yes because of raging hormones. However, girls aren't as impulsive. My advice, you approach him.

Yeah that makes sense. I tell my parents about this and they're constantly telling me to wait for him to come to me but that never seems to work and I don't really wanna wait for him to come to me. They say "if he likes you, he'll come to you" and I'm just not so sure about that. He's been looking at me for a while now yet nothing happened till I made a move so I feel like I need to keep approaching or this will go nowhere and I might send mixed signals causing him to lose interest which I really don't want to happen.

I don't think he knows you like him. He was probably afraid that a move like that would jeopardize your relationship.

That makes sense, if the roles had been in reverse I would have reacted he same way. I would've been afraid it was some type of setup to make me look stupid. Wow him and I really are similar!

Your looking firm signs, body languages, and probably is insecure about something. All the while you forgot that you got a mouth and legs too. You can approach him. It's not a trait only for males. Also don't confuse yourself and look for little details. You'll read into it the wrong way each and every time.

He is not interested as much. That and it might be that he's thinking that he shouldn't have to chase you. Which I less likely the case. Another reason is because he might be scared to pick a worthy topic.

Yeah I could see that, whenever I see him walking in the hall and I know I have a golden opportunity to talk to him, I feel like I always blank because I'm trying to think of the right thing to say so it's possible he feels the same way but he's just not taking the risk.

Also, I was joking with a friend the one day that I was having a bad day cause I lost my tic-tacs and he saw the guy I liked and walked up to him and said "My friend Madison here is having a bad day, she needs a hug. She's pretty upset she's crying" & I obviously said "I'm not crying!" cause I wasn't. But then my guy of interest just said "bad day huh? That's okay we all have those days" & walked into his classroom. My friend then stood in the classroom doorway and said "Do me a favor, get out here!" & my guy of interest said "I can't I'm in class!" Why wouldn't he take the opportunity to give me a hug?
