Sometimes guys friend zone pretty girls because they don't think the girl would be into them. The other reason I've done it is that I wasn't a girl's first choice. She showed some interest in me, and then all of the sudden she was dating this other guy in our dorm. Then, a week later after he got what he wanted, she was back to me showing interest. Wasn't happening for me.

I think they friend zone to keep their options open. The stereotype is guy's think attractive and pretty girls are a lot of work to deal with. Many assume they are already taken. Attractive girl's have very expensive taste with stuff. I think guy's don't want to invest money into something like that.

I typically do it because I have had too many of them fuck around with my feelings so I gave up on them long ago, now I just assume they are all fucking with me and my emotions *Which by the way are fragile* and therefore I just stick with being friends.

Could also be that there's just no romantic ground and you legit just want to be friends. People of the opposite sex should be able to be friends without it having to lead to more.
