Believe it or not, evolution has a lot to do with it.
For our male prehistoric ancestors, the goal was to impregnate as many females as possible. For the females, it was to find the male who would have the healthiest sperm, could ward off rival males and predators and find food for mom and her baby.
One of the ways that a man displayed was an erect penis. (Instinctively, the female assumed that a male with a large penis was healthier. More about this point, anon.) For the male, this both impressed the female and showed his readiness to mate and - this is key - also warded off rival males. (The alpha male had the biggest erection.)
That evolutionary competitiveness survives as an instinct. That's why you have the gym locker room where all the guys are unconsciously comparing themselves to each other while pretending not to.
One other fun fact: There was a study done by Victoria University in Australia. They showed women photos of nude men, some with erections, others without. They asked the women who was more attractive.
Overwhelmingly, it was not even close, the men with erections were judged the more attractive. The very same evolutionary instinct that has men still displaying, so to speak, works on women too. We have evolved, but our instincts are still there.
Men will never, ever stop believe that bigger is better. It's just the way we are built. Plus the top-down perspective of looking at your own dick makes look smaller that than it actually is and we get self-conscious about it.
Fragile egos, insecurities and watching too much porn with dudes that have king kong size love stick has made them feel this way. Yes, there are women out there who require a certain length and size and that probably has them worried, however, 5 inches is the norm for any man. If you have 5 inches or slightly more, stop making yourself sick and worried over it cause you are normal. I think most guys who worry about their size are normal on here but they let their insecurities get in the way of that.
Cause they wrongly think women care about penis size as much as they do.
I mean, we do, a little...2 inches is too small... but I have no problem at all with an average size dick.

there’s a lot behind this…. But….. suffice it to say that boys (and people in general) start comparing themselves with each other and trying to outdo each other from a young age. When you’re young, stupid, and ignorant, penis size becomes one of the things that makes you more “macho”. Society has engrained that mentality into many/most men. Pride and ego take over and screw up our whole perception of what’s right. Planet earth is full of prideful, selfish people.
For me it's less about the size but wanting to ensure I satisfy the lady
I'm definitely not worried about the size of my manhood. If she want bigger I'll simply leave no biggie.

Because if bigger is better then being one of those above average guys put's you in a good position. Being below average is going to be distressing.
Coz many girls clearly claim that they have a liking for bigger ones, so men get insecure.
