If you talk to him enough he'll notice or if he's interested in you he will notice right away. Periods of space I feel are important though especially if you guys aren't official. It makes your s/o think about how easy it is to lose the attention and care you gave him and if anything can make him more interested. I say this but this shouldn't be abused as it will drive the guy away and he won't be interested.
This will be a good test to see if he's interested, but if you really like him you should just go for it instead of wrecking your brain
