Why would a guy keep looking at you?

When he walks to his friends, he turns his body or his head in my direction looking straight at me smiling. When I walk by them he gets so quiet and looks super nervous. When we were in groups three times each time he slowly moves closer and closer towards me. I doubt he likes me because I don’t seem like I’m his type. There are so many girls there that are hotter than me. He came over to my friend once because they’re friends. They’re always joking around with each other. My friend mentioned something about me to him and he didn’t say anything but he got closer to me. He’s always fixing his hair and fixing his clothes. He can’t stand still. He taps his foot and he’d breathing hard likes he’s having a panic attack. He stares at me smiling from a distance. I stared to stare at him one day but I quickly look away when he saw me. I look back and he’s smiling but he didn’t look back at me. He does this thing were he pretends to be writing something or on his phone or a computer but his eyes are looking at me. I know this because I look at him and he quickly looks away and plays it off. I plan on talking to him soon. I’m just worried that I maybe overthinking. Usually when I see something others see it too.
