- Their son wasn’t sick
- He never texts her asking how their son was.
- He never mentioned it to me. I found out myself when I was on his phone.
- He says they don’t get on very well so that’s why I find it a bit strange.
- He was suppose to be there for me, but he was sat their texting his ex

As others have stated, this was about the other child.
Another child of his coming into the world probably was a well needed trigger for him.
He was there for you, and your child and maybe that made him think and realize his other child deserved and deserves the same from him.
Could he have chosen a better moment to act on this. Yes, probably. But don't make this about him and her, make it about the child/children as it should be. You do realize that it's not just his child anymore, his child is also a sibling to yours. And maybe that's what he was thinking as well. To get closer to his other child so both his children can get to know each other some day as they are now family. And, you as a mother should not be discouraging this but rather encouraging it as it will affect your child as well. Good luck to you and your family, which does and should include his other child

I also meant to add hating/ not hating an ex should never be a reason/excuse not to be a parent or be there for your child/children. Once you are a parent it should be about what's best for the child

Maybe. Could be that you being in labor got him thinking about his other kid. It's weird to text your ex at 1am, but it's not like he was asking her about anything inappropriate.

Sounds like he’s having a nervous father moment. Zero to do regarding the ex. Especially based on your observations of his behavior. I get no indication there is something other than him having an anxious parent moment - in spite of his low interaction with his son. Probably triggered by becoming a father once again. Frankly I would not be surprised if he suddenly finds himself wishing to have a greater part in his son’s life at least for now. In other words, he might finally be maturing as a father.

His son is 6 months old. Him and his ex hate one another. They’ve already been through courts. He never texts her. I just found it odd that he decided to text her while I was in pain during labour and about to give birth. He missed a maintenance payment with her and missed a supervised visit to play soccer. I really don’t think he cares much about his son.

Again, it is the birth of your daughter that is likely affecting his thinking and giving him pause. In other words, he’s having a crystalized parental moment it sounds like. I think this has far more to do with him being a father (albeit a lousy one so far) and he is realizing this with the birth of your daughter. In essence I get the impression this has everything to do with his children and definitely zero to do with the ex. This is likely a good thing for both son and daughter alike and particularly for you as perhaps he is less likely to repeat history as with his ex with you. Zero to do with the ex and everything to do with his children.

If he get custody of his son throwing a sibling into the mix can get complicated quickly

There’s 6 months between them. He won’t get custody for now. She has a good job, been to college and he’s unemployed because of mental health and has been in trouble social media post about her which got the guards in trouble because of threats. He also skips supervised visits to play soccer so I doubt the court would swing in his favour.

I don't know why I bother answering if you're going to push your crazy agenda. He has a child with this woman, he has the right to contact her regarding said child. Until he has given you a reason to doubt him I think you need to take 20% off the top there and worry about your child
